Over the past few decades, rehabilitation science has undergone a profound
\ntransformation: from a largely siloed discipline concerned mainly with
\nrestoring physical capability to an integrated, multidisciplinary field
\ncharacterized by evidence-based practice, patient-centered care, and
\ncollaborative decision-making. Rehabilitation professionals today work in
\never more complex clinical environment where pharmacologic agents,
\nphysical activity and exercise, and technology converge to promote
\nfunction, to decrease disability and to improve the quality of life.
\nPharmacological and Physical Therapies in Rehabilitation: A Collaborative
\nPerspective was written to address the gap in knowledge that exists
\nbetween the disciplines of pharmacology and physical rehabilitation
\npractice. Though, each domain has their own depth in standards and
\nsophistication, the ideal patient outcome occurs with the context that
\nclinicians have an understanding of how the therapeutic strategies actually
\ncomplement\u2014and usually influence\u2014each other. The reasons are multiple
\nbut organized strategy is required in the management of pain, spasticity,
\ninflammation, neuromuscular disorders, cardiopulmonary dysfunction,
\northopedic and chronic disease affecting mobility and functional status.
\nWe want to provide a full resource to health professionals, students and
\nresearchers, which encompasses:

\napplications
\nAt every stage in this book, readers will see evidence-based practice,
\ninterprofessional collaboration, and moral obligation to provide safe and
\neffective care. Written at the appropriate level of clarity, with clinical
\nrelevance and scientific rigor each chapter is designed to benefit students
\nbeginning their journey, practicing clinicians fine tuning their skills, and
\nresearchers pursuing creative new rehabilitation pathways.
